Lee and Roberta are your hosts aboard Wandering Duck.
Following our return from a year of travelling overland through South America and East Africa we looked around for our next adventure. Not wanting to fall back into a standard 9-5 routine we began searching for alternatives where we could continue to meet new people and experience new challenges.
We researched campsite and hostel management and at one point we seriously considered buying a small campsite in Ecuador. We stumbled across an advert for Wandering Duck almost by chance and it immediately caught our interest. Even though we had little experience of the canal network and narrowboats we were not put off – in fact it was the idea of a new challenge that excited us.
After contacting Mark and Ruth, the couple who started Wandering Duck in 2012, we travelled up to Bugsworth Basin in the Peak District to have our first look at the boat – Rakiraki. Several weeks later we were the proud owners of a narrowboat and an exciting business on Britain’s waterways! This was followed by a whirlwind of activity preparing ourselves for life on the canals which now, after a great deal of practice and experience, already feels like home.
We now look forward to continuing to grow the business, following on from Mark and Ruth’s successful years at the helm. We can’t wait to introduce a whole new set of people to the hidden world of the British canal network, as well as welcoming back previous guests.
If you have any questions and want to find out more about what it is like to travel aboard a 69ft long by 6ft 10in wide narrowboat please get in touch – we look forward to meeting and travelling with you in the future.
See you soon,
Lee & Roberta
