Manchester to Liverpool

Day 1

We start in Castlefield Basin, a waterfront setting surrounded by converted canal warehouses and bars. After a brief familiarisation with your new home; our 69ft narrowboat, we start cruising. Day 2 and 3

We leave the Bridgewater Canal behind and are now travelling along the Leigh Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. We travel through Wigan, passing by George Orwell’s famous Wigan Pier.  After Wigan we continue cruising along the Leeds & Liverpool canal through open countryside passing by small towns and villages such as Appley Bridge, Parbold and Burscough.

Day 4

Today we start our journey on the outskirts of Liverpool.  We pass by Aintree Racecourse – famous for the Grand National.   After lunch we join the Liverpool Canal Link for the final cruise into the city – this part of the route runs parallel to the River Mersey passing the city’s historic waterfront, the Museum of Liverpool and the Three Graces –  the Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. After mooring at Salthouse Quay it’s time to go out and explore the city.
