Day 1

We start from Congleton in Cheshire. Even though we’re just a short train ride from Manchester you’ll instantly feel you’ve escaped the “real world” as we cruise along the inland waters through open countryside.

Day 2

Today we’ll need your help as we travel up through the 12 locks in the Bosley lock flight, the most rural of lock flights on our tours. At the bottom of the locks we are half a mile from the nearest road, deep in the Dane Valley. At the top of the locks we’ll take a well earned rest for lunch, then we’ll cruise a little further on in to Macclesfield.

A very short walk from the mooring takes you to the Studio space where your expert Tutor / Model will great you with all the Art materials (and experience) that you’ll need for your memorable, fun and informative 60 or 90 min session (90 min for a small additional fee).

Delivered by the most experienced and respected Figurative Art company in the UK, you’ll be introduced to your (nude) male model and taken through 5 or 6 fun exercises. The time will fly by before you leave with your half a dozen sketches and a raft of unbelievable memories! We can even supply you with some bottles of Prosecco and wine glasses for a small charge.

After your life drawing head to a nearby local pub for your evening meal before heading back to the boat, or going out in Macclesfield where we can recommend various pubs, cocktail bars, nightclubs and live music venues.

Day 3

This morning we’re happy to cook you a simple breakfast of bacon sandwiches or pancakes with fresh fruit and cream (We can work some magic in that minuscule kitchen of ours!) There’s no need to rise early as no locks to work today – simply leave the steering to your crew. In the afternoon there’s plenty of time for walking, canoeing*, fishing, or mountain biking**. However, there’s no pressure; if you’re feeling in need of relaxation, simply stay on the homely boat with a book and some chilled tunes.

One of the easier walks if you fancy escaping from the boat is in to Lyme Park, home to where Mr Darcy met Miss Bennett in the BBC production of ‘Pride and Prejudice’. There is a charge to enter the house and gardens, but there’s a nice walk around the house which is free of charge and gives great views of the house and lake.

We finish the tour in Marple, Manchester, which is on the outskirts of the city. The train station is a short walk away from where you can take a train into the centre of Manchester.

*small charge of £6pp for canoeing
** mountain biking must be booked in advance

Getting There And Away

Start Point: Macclesfield Canal, beside Congleton Train Station, Congleton, Cheshire. CW12 3DE
Take the train to Congleton from either Manchester Piccadilly, or you can arrive from London by changing trains at Stoke-on-Trent. Exit Congleton Train station via the platform 2 exit and walk down the steps under Park Lane bridge on to the canal. Turn right on to the canal towpath (the canal should now be on your left) under the bridge.

You shouldn’t miss the 69ft long green narrowboat which will be moored up in the basin. Wandering Duck does not have a designated mooring space, so if you cannot see the boat please just contact us on 07584 122614.

Finish Point: Macclesfield Canal, beside Congleton Train Station, Congleton, Cheshire. CW12 3DE
The tour finishes in Marple, a 15 minute walk from Marple Train Station. We will actually arrive in Marple just before 4pm in order that you can catch the 16.07 train back to Manchester.

Parking
We recommend using public transport where possible, however we know that sometimes this is not practical. Therefore you may park your car at one end and take a taxi between the start and finish points for around £45.

There is free street parking in both Congleton and Marple.
